Text to Speech
Turn text into natural-sounding speech in your browser. Pick a voice, adjust speed and pitch, and play — your text is never uploaded.
Speech is generated by your browser or operating system's voice engine — this page never uploads what you type. Voices tagged "on-device" run entirely locally; some browsers also offer "cloud" voices that send the text to the browser vendor to synthesize, so choose an on-device voice if you want the text to stay on your device.
Have any text read aloud in a natural voice. Paste your writing, choose a voice and speaking speed, and press play. It uses your browser's built-in speech engine, so the text you enter is not uploaded by this page.
How to use it
No account, no upload — it all happens on your device.
What it's good for
Listening beats re-reading for some tasks.
- Proofreading. Hearing your writing read back catches clumsy sentences and typos your eyes skip over.
- Accessibility and multitasking. Listen to an article or notes while doing something else.
- Pronunciation and language practice. Switch to a voice in another language to hear how a phrase sounds.
Getting the best voices
If the voice list is short, your device simply has few installed. Most systems let you add higher-quality voices in their accessibility or language settings; once installed they appear in the dropdown here. Chrome and Edge on desktop typically offer the widest selection.
